| Honest Improv A weekend intensive workshop designed to guide actors toward their true potential through improvisation. The focus is on creating realism through improvised character development, scene creation and monologues. The class provides actors of all experience levels with tools that will assist in auditions, rehearsals and in performance. This class is not designed to lead to an improv show, but rather to support actors in their film work, both comedic and dramatic. It will also be helpful to stage actors. The workshop will cover: making strong choices that allow for the most potential to build on when setting up a scene, building solid characters that are believable and interesting, telling the story through a beginning, middle and end, and guiding the scene from within so everyone looks good, regardless of experience. Bring a bag lunch for 30-minute lunch break. DATES: Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28, 2011; 2012 TBA TIME: 9 am - 5 pm (30-minute lunch break) INSTRUCTOR: Chris Redish PRICE: $250 REGISTER: Online or Mail |

| Shakespeare Boot Camp "Shakespeare Boot Camp" is a four week intensive taught by Desert Rose Theatre's artistic director, Katherine Stewart. It is during these weeks that the actors will gain an understanding of what is expected in Shakespearean performance. Actors will be introduced to the fundamentals of Shakespeare's language, how to mine the text for acting clues and how to scan the rhythm of poetic verse. During the class, students will learn the proper actor's homework as it applies to classical theatre (and Shakespeare specifically) and how to effectively study, memorize and rehearse the dialogue. Actors will experience hands-on study in class which will steer them to make effective choices that "suit the action to the word, the word to the action." Emphasis will be placed on proper scansion and pronunciation of the text and powerful character choices. Students will learn what a casting director of Shakespeare wishes to see, which characters are appropriate for their type and what the difference is between modern and classical style of performance. All actors will be given nurturing, constructive critiques of their work and will receive a written evaluation of their progress at the end of the class series. DATE: 2012 TBA TIME: 2012 TBA INSTRUCTOR: Katherine Stewart PRICE: $200 REGISTER: Online or via Mail |
